Carmella competed in a one-on-one matchup against Asuka on the latest episode of Raw, this past Monday night. The only two-time winner of the women’s Money in the Bank briefcase was much more confident, heading into the clash. In fact, she herself wanted that match to go down showing utmost confidence. She also had an additional reason to feel that same way since Asuka never defeated her in a singles capacity.
This is why Carmella reacted to a post by WWE on social media questioning whether she would be ready for her battle against the Japanese sensation. She informed the following by commenting the following on the post, “Fun fact: Asuka has never defeated me in a one on one match…. Soooo maybe you should be asking HER if she’s ready for ME.”

The point was totally correct since Asuka indeed had to pick up a clean win over the Princess of Staten Island in her entire WWE career until last Monday night. In 2018, Carmella first scored a victory against Asuka on TV at the Money in the Bank premium live event as she retained the SmackDown Women’s Championship for the very first time after winning it from none other than Charlotte Flair, the night after WrestleMania 34.
Carmella and Asuka also competed in the women’s Elimination Chamber structure
Carmella and Asuka would then collide in a rematch the following month at Extreme Rules, where the champion again retained by picking up the win over Asuka. Since then, both the female wrestlers have only performed against each other in multi-person matches until this week’s Raw. Despite all the bragging and the stats being on her side, Asuka triumphed by applying her unique arm and shoulder submission.
Last month, Carmella and Asuka also took part in the Elimination Chamber match to determine the number one contender for the Raw Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 39. Even on that night, Asuka eliminated the former four-time WWE 24/7 Champion to punch her ticket to WrestleMania with her submission but that victory wasn’t counted since it was a multi-person match.
Talking about that loss, Carmella claimed that she would deliver “one hell of a receipt” to Asuka for costing her the shot at Bianca Belair at the biggest event of the year. Ultimately, she failed to do so but before that, she returned to WWE following a lengthy absence from an injury as well as from a miscarriage which itself is a tremendous achievement in her career.
