As Wrestlemania 39 season continued, earlier this year, fans hoped for yet another women’s division main event featuring Charlotte Flair. Even a trailer released for the PLE indicated that Rhea Ripley challenging the then Smackdown Women’s Championship would feature as the main event of the show but that wasn’t the case.
Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley did tear the house down, possibly delivering the best match from the Night One of Wrestlemania 39 card but the undisputed tag team title match was chosen to feature in the main event spot.
Charlotte Flair dropped the blue brand women’s title to Rhea Ripley on that night and went into a hiatus from WWE. Just like her father confirmed earlier, she wasn’t happy with WWE snubbing her out of the main event equation.
WWE Wrestlemania 40: Possible Marquee Match Revealed Featuring Charlotte Flair
While speaking on his Out of Character podcast, Ryan Satin revealed that he spoke to The Queen before her WrestleMania 39 match against Rhea Ripley and got to know that she was very frustrated for not receiving that precious main event slot,
“You know another thing, a recent conversation I had about women’s wrestling, Charlotte Flair when I spoke to her during WrestleMania weekend before her match. She told me about the frustration she had with it still not being a guarantee that the women are gonna main event one of the nights.” (quotes courtesy Ringside News)
Reason Charlotte Flair opted for a hiatus after Wrestlemania 39
As noted above, the 14-time world champion went right into a hiatus after performing in that title match. Many might believe that it was due to her frustrations with the WWE over the main-event snub. However, that hiatus was pre-decided since she was scheduled to participate in a body-building competition.
Previously, Charlotte Flair got to take part in the first-ever All-Women Wrestlemania main event back in 2019 in a Triple Threat Match also featuring Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch. But she might be ecstatic about competing in a singles main event encounter much like Sasha Banks vs. Bianca Belair at Wrestlemania 37.
We’ll have to see whether Charlotte Flair eventually gets that opportunity in her WWE career and close out a WrestleMania event in the future. But that won’t hurt her marquee status in the WWE who had won seventeen overall championships in the company alongside headlining a number of pay-per-view events.
