ToggleIt might sound weird to wrestling fans but the daughter of Ric Flair, Charlotte Flair, perhaps the benchmark athlete of the women’s roster, initially had no interest in a professional wrestling career during her childhood. She had a professional degree in marketing and never had traditional training in the wrestling ring.
Interestingly, even when Charlotte Flair started in this business, it wasn’t because of her father. The second-generation talent actually entered the wrestling business because of her late brother Reid Flair, a fact that has been admitted time and time again. The top WWE Superstar recently told the story of commencing in wrestling during an appearance on LeBatardShow.
WWE Smackdown: Charlotte Flair Doesn’t Want Title Unification For A Reason
Charlotte Flair wanted to inspire her brother in the WWE
Charlotte Flair mentioned that her brother was in talks with WWE to enter the company in 2012. It was during that time span that someone came up with the idea to him to join the wrestling business as well. She agreed to the idea just because she thought her presence by the side of her brother could keep him motivated. She also recalled how her brother passed away the same night he could see her perform in the ring,
“Well, he had a really bad drug addiction and I thought that if I somewhat started what he wanted to that it would get him motivated, almost like jealous in a way. Like ‘My sister’s doing this, I’ve got to do it too. I’ve got to be better. I’ve got to stay on the right course.’ So when I started, he still didn’t pass the test [with WWE].
Then he went off to Japan [and] started wrestling in Japan. They brought him home from Japan to see me for the first time at WrestleMania Axxess almost a year after I signed. He passed away that night when they brought him home to see me wrestle for the first time. So, like, ever since then I just think it’s gonna be that first time he sees me.”
Charlotte Flair always has the etch to be on the top of the women’s division
Charlotte Flair has since become perhaps the most successful female pro wrestler of all time not only in the WWE but also in the entire professional wrestling circuit. According to her, she was just trying to help her brother’s dream and she never thought that she would achieve so many accolades after entering the business. Perhaps this thought keeps her in a state where she has to prove herself,
“[I] wasn’t 16 and was like, ‘I’m going to be the last Divas Champion or I’m gonna be the first woman to main event WrestleMania. I’m gonna be the first woman to main event Raw, Smackdown, Pay Per Views, and WrestleMania.’ All these things just keep happening. I’m just like, ‘Why did I get to be so fortunate and he never got to see me do any of it. I don’t know. It’s one of the things I guess, it just keeps me ticking.” (quotes courtesy Sescoops)
Charlotte Flair is overall a seventeen-time champion in the WWE but the company sees her as a fourteen-time champion on record. Besides this, she’s a multi-time PPV main-eventer, Royal Rumble winner, and much more which takes the second-generation talent to a level where no one can match up to her status. But one thing is sure she has several more accolades to achieve in her career.
