Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer DDP Diamond Dallas Page who is also is former three times WCW World Heavyweight Champion recently said that he was “Too much of a Mark” for Vince McMahon and that hurt his WWE career.

DDP Thinks He Was “Too Much Of A Mark For Vince MacMahon”

And he did not join the world of pro wrestling as a wrestler, he wanted to work as a manager and that is what he was doing when he joined AWA, American Wrestling Association in 1988. He kept on working as a manager even after joining WCW in 1989.

He managed different wrestlers and Tag Teams in a very short amount of time. But soon WCW understood he was too good to be a manager. Eric bischoff gave an excellent example during Page’s Hall of Fame speech. He wanted the fans to imagine Paul Heyman as a 6’11” man and he was managing Brock Lesnar, how would it look like.

That is something happened during Page’s management career in wrestling. Soon he transitioned to a professional wrestler and he became one of the biggest names in WCW as he won a total of three WCW World Heavyweight Championships and also other titles.

After WCW was purchased by WWE back in 2001, he came to the new promotion but he has never been portrayed as a huge deal in WWE as he was in the WCW. He had a feud with the Undertaker which was poorly booked. After he lost the feud to the Undertaker he got a number of different feud to work but nothing worked out very well for him.

In early 2002, he won the WWE European Championship but there were not enough big plans for him and European title was the lower mid card title of the WWE so the intention of the promotion about him was quite clear. Page could never get his lost glory back after that. In 2017 WWE inducted into their Hall of Fame.

“I think one of the biggest things hurting me going in (to WWE), I was too much of a mark for Vince. As a kid growing up, I freaking thought Vince McMahon was what he is – he is the grand poobah. I respected him so much walking in there – probably too much.

“Vince (Russo) will tell you this, ‘You’ve got to be able to fight your way in there, and I was happy to be there… I wanted to just be there ’cause I loved that since I was a kid since it was the WWWF. I watched Vince interview Andre on apple carts and Vince who is six-freaking-two look like a midget next to Andre the Giant. And I loved the guy. I understood it was business.”
