Deonna Purrazzo was released by WWE NXT, last year which appeared to be a breather for the bright talent. It gave her the opportunity that she never received on the WWE NXT roster. After not receiving much of an opportunity on television for more than a couple of years, her WWE job became frustrated and she desperately wanted to get rid of it. After all, she signed with WWE to become a star on television but she did everything except for appearing on TV on a regular basis.

While speaking to the Oral Sessions podcast hosted by former WWE talent Renee Young, Deonna Purrazzo detailed some of her complaints about WWE’s developmental system also known as NXT. She was given suggestions about how she could do things differently, but nobody was specific enough about how she could shine bright on television.

A big part of Deonna Purrazzo’s wrestling career was the run in NXT from 2018 to 2020. She has been critical of her time, there, for obvious reasons. Interestingly, she revealed that the sporadic usage of her on TV drained so much around her from wrestling while being in NXT. She almost intended to quit the sport after getting released in the spring of 2020.

“I was just kind of emotionally drained from wrestling,” Deonna Purrazzo said. “That environment and that system just really didn’t work for me as a person. I was just very much, ‘this is such b******t! This is not what I love about wrestling. I’m not even wrestling! I come to work and no one has valued me for any of my literal life accomplishments before I even got here.

What is this worth, what have I done with my life? Was it even worth it up to this point?’ When I was fired, I had contemplated going back to school a whole bunch. And I was like, ‘okay, I’m definitely going to go back to school.’ So I immediately sent in applications to different schools that were online, and I was like, ‘maybe I’ll just be a normal person again.’”

Deonna Purrazzo still hopes to be back in WWE

Thankfully, Impact Wrestling provided her with the needed opportunities and even before signing a bound contract with the promotion, she became the Knockouts Champion, last summer. Now the two-time champ and the Impact wrestler of the year 2020 has already proven her potential to the wrestling world.

Despite her difficulties with WWE, Deonna Purrazzo admitted that there’s still a small possibility that she could return to the WWE somewhere down the road. She’s more than happy in her current situation as she could wrestle for Impact, AAA, NWA, and other promotions. But being a part of Wrestlemania and becoming the WWE Women’s Champion is the ultimate goal of her career which remains the same.

“I think that was always my goal as a kid,” Deonna Purrazzo concluded. “I didn’t know all these other promotions existed, I was a WWE fan. So, for me, the goal was always to be on WrestleMania and be the Women’s Champion. So, I think there’s always going to be a part of me that’s like, ‘I wish it turned out differently.’ And never say never. If there’s any opportunity, maybe I would go. But I don’t know. I think that it drives me every day to work hard to get that phone call. And then be like, ‘oh me? The difficult one? I don’t know, I’ll have to think about it!’”
