The current WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther is undoubtedly one of the biggest projects of WWE right now. While working in the NXT UK, he presented some five star quality matches and proved what he is actually capable of. It was pretty much certain that he would receive a big push from the main roster.
Gunther, who is often regarded as The Ring General made his main roster debut last year after WrestleMania 38 and from the very first day of joining the main roster of the promotion he had been treated as a big deal. Soon after joining the main roster, he went on to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

That is not all, he is working on the main roster for more than one year and he is still undefeated. He has received challenges from some of the top names of the promotion including the likes of the Celtic Warrior Sheamus, and the Scottish Warrior Drew McIntyre, but he managed to defeat all of them.
On the latest PLE of WWE which was SummerSlam, he was challenged by Drew McIntyre for his Intercontinental title and he managed to defeat the Scottish Warrior yet again. Their previous encounter took place at WrestleMania 39. It was a triple threat match which also included Sheamus.
Gunther Is Only One Month Away From Becoming The Longest Reigning IC Champion
There are definitely big plans for Gunther’s WWE future. It is heavily rumoured that he is going to win the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40 after winning the Royal Rumble match. Fans are also waiting to see the dream clash between him and Roman Reigns. Gunther himself talked about this dream match recently when he spoke to Inside The Ropes. Here is what WWE Intercontinental Champion said;
“If the opportunity is there, obviously, because that’s the big money match for everybody is to be with Roman right now, and deservedly so. I think he is on a never before seen run, setting records and everything, so who would not want to be in the ring with him? Just from my own perspective, I don’t think he is on the radar right now because he is doing his thing.
“He’s on SmackDown, I am on Raw, so that is not in the cards at the moment. Who knows what will happen? If it happens then I would love to do it, but I am closer to wanting to get in the ring with Seth or Cody or Finn Balor. Those are the guys that are a closer reach for me.” Concluded the Ring General.
