The full card for WWE Clash of Champions 2020 isn’t finalized yet but the top matches for the show have been revealed including the WWE Championship match. The prime title-holder on Raw Drew McIntyre will be sen defending in an ambulance match. As of this writing, he is scheduled to defend the title against Randy Orton but that could change, sooner.

As of now, Randy Orton has been off the television for a week with a storyline injury after digesting three back to back Claymore Kicks on a single night from Drew McIntyre. In his absence, WWE is playing a side angle where Keith Lee is getting an opportunity to be inserted into the title match. For that, he’d have to defeat the champion on Raw.

After RETRIBUTION caused Lee his match, last week, WWE has booked the rematch with the same stipulation which is a hint that WWE could add Keith Lee to the title match and replaces Orton as there is an open-ended booking. Orton had the chance of winning the title but it’s unsure whether he could fully recuperate from the kayfabe injury and even perform in the match.

Meanwhile, the Ambulance Match is a way to protect whoever loses the title match. If it’s Orton then not only he suffered a loss to McIntyre in their first encounter at SummerSlam, but he also got beaten by Lee at Payback.

These two consecutive losses while putting over the opponents, did hurt his status while there have been talks of Orton being the champion heading into the third encounter against Edge at WrestleMania 37. So The Viper just can’t afford to digest another pinfall loss, at this point. At the same time, Drew McIntyre won’t have to be pinned or submitted if he ends up losing.

Dave Meltzer informed in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that “the one thing the ambulance match does is it allows them to protect McIntyre from taking a pin while getting the title off him.”

With that being said, hints are already available that WWE might want to take the WWE Championship away from Drew McIntyre while he remains undefeated. Orton is still the favorite to become the new champion while Keith Lee isn’t likely to pick up the belt. He’s yet to accomplish the main-eventer guy status, first.
