Eva Marie may not be the best wrestler to be out there on WWE television but ever since her debut, she could fetch attention with the blink of an eye. Her WWE Raw debut went down in 2013 which didn’t turn out exactly how it was planned and she recently revisited that infamous moment.

The first-ever appearance on WWE’s mainstay TV for Eva Marie came as a part of the WWE Total Divas crew on Miz TV. In an appearance on YouTube, she admitted that moments before going live, she was informed that she would not only promote the upcoming reality TV series with a promo but she will have to slap WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler inside the ring.

Being a novice in the game, Eva Marie started panicking about hitting a legend like Lawler on live television. As a result, her attempt at the slap turned out to be one of the worst in WWE history, as stated by her in the YouTube video,

“When I got back into Gorilla, everybody was laughing at me because I slapped him (softly) and he kind of was like, you know, tried to sell it as best as he could.”

Eva Marie didn’t want to hurt Jerry Lawler with a slap

Eva Marie further added that Lawler was such a gentleman a regular attendee of WWE Raw as a commentator, back then. Hence, the call of hitting him with a slap was an unprecedented move. The then All-Red everything obviously didn’t want to hurt Lawler and that intention was reflected when she slapped.

“I was just supposed to be in the Total Divas crew out on Miz TV. Then all of a sudden right before it’s like, ‘Eva Marie, these are going to be your lines and then you’re going to slap the King,'” she added. “I’m like, ‘huh? But, it’s Jerry Lawler and he’s an older gentleman and he’s you know, Jerry Lawler.’ So I didn’t want to hurt him by slapping him, nobody told me how to properly slap somebody.” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)

Despite the mishap on her debut night on WWE TV, Eva Marie went on to enjoy a career in the company for the next few years. Of course, she never had the chance of winning a championship but that didn’t ever stop her from being a mainstream attraction for the company before getting released in 2017.
