Many of the fans do believe that Layla doesn’t get enough credits for her accolades in the WWE. While she is one of the pioneer champions that the female roster had ever produced, the feeling is that she was overshadowed by tag team partner Michelle McCool. These two jointly known as LayCool ruled the roster with the Women’s Championships by their side.
This must be one of the reasons that Layla has been left with so many good memories with her back in the WWE days and she can’t just stop missing those days. If given a chance she might just want to make a comeback but days have changed since the past where she now has to absolutely be top-notch at her games to go toe-to-toe with the modern-day superstars.
If Sasha Banks Doesn’t Work Out, You Can Fire Me,” WWE General Manager
Layla was recently interviewed on Excuse Me: The Vickie Guerrero Show, where she discussed a variety of topics, including what she misses about working for WWE, the women’s locker room during the Divas etc. Going by her words, the former Divas Champion doesn’t miss the fact that one has to be on the road while being under contract with the WWE. But rather she misses her colleagues, very much.
“I miss certain parts about working for WWE. There’s certain highlights that are great, and there’s certain things that I was like, I could never do that again,” Layla noted. “I would never be on the road driving five hours. All of that stuff, after a while, I don’t miss that, but I do miss some of the people, and I do miss some of the moments I had on TV.
Ex Divas Champion Layla Reveals Her Dream Opponent In WWE
I was very privileged to work with you. I know you said that we let you come into LayCool. No, you were part of LayCool. You helped us so much, and I always looked up to you and admired you. It was such an honor. I look back now, and I’m just like, thank you. We had some really really great moments, and I remember we’re working with Mickie James, and I was in the room.” (Quotes courtesy 411Mania)
Layla has major praises for Vickie Guerrero
Layla also proceeded to give major props to the host Vickie Guerrero for her fighting ethics during that WWE Divas Era. Females had to fight for each opportunity unlike now when they have already maintained a steady position. Vickie being another pioneer was helmed as the top heel of the female locker room by the UK-born Diva during this conversation.
As for Layla’s WWE career, she won the WWE Women’s Championship for the first time in May 2010 by defeating Beth Phoenix. She is the first British woman and the first Diva Search winner to hold the championship and was also the final champion when the title was retired in 2010. In April 2012, she won the WWE Divas Championship upon her return from a one-year-long hiatus due to injury and held it until September that year. She announced retirement from the WWE in 2015.
