Despite announcing early retirement from competition, AJ Lee remains a trailblazer in the history of the WWE women’s division. Her impact on the Women’s Revolution is undeniable even though she was there on the scene barely for five years. At a time when the WWE Divas era was in full force, she cemented her legacy as a professional wrestler which inspired many of today’s female wrestlers to follow her league.
Since her retirement from the WWE in 2015, we haven’t seen AJ Lee that much in a pro wrestling ring, but she recently returned to the business for a behind-the-scenes role with the relaunched WOW Women of Wrestling. However, she still doesn’t make much of public appearances which could change in due course.

The venture will be directed by starring Michael Angarano who will also be seen in the film. The plot of the movie suggests a free-spirited Rickey (Angarano) and his long-time friend Glenn (Michael Cera) going on an impromptu road trip from LA to Sacramento.
Maya Erskine will play Rickey’s wife, while Kristen Stewart will play Glenn’s wife Rosie. AJ Lee and Iman Karram (Daft State) will play ex-professional fighters who will give advice to Rickey and Glenn about their own relationship.
“We’re Taking It Slow,” WWE Veteran AJ Lee On Coming Out Of Retirement
This is not the first time that AJ Lee would be associated with a mainstream project outside of wrestling. Previously, she played the role of ‘Kira’ in the 2019 body horror film Rabid which was all about a woman experiencing homicidal tendencies after an experimental treatment. Lee was also a co-writer for Blade of the 47 Ronin, alongside John Swetman and Aimee Garcia.
Also, wrestling fans would be aware that Mendez’s AJ Lee character was a key part of Paige’s (now Saraya) biopic ‘Fighting with My Family’, a role played by Zelina Vega. Lee debuted in the WWE NXT reality show’s third season before coming to the main roster in 2011. Then in 2013, she reached the peak of her career by winning the WWE Divas Championship.
