John Cena is a living legend in the professional wrestling world who possesses tons of records by his name throughout his WWE career. Of course, he’s a 16-time World Champion who carried the company for over 15 years on his shoulder as no one else had done in the past.

Nowadays, John Cena had become a part-timer due to his commitments to Hollywood projects and that should be the norm on WWE TV for the near future or so. Despite his recent return to WWE television for a one-night appearance on June 20, he missed summer’s biggest premium live event Summerslam which took place at the Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

Speaking of Summerslam, this is the same particular event where WWE’s franchise player suffered the most devastating loss of his career, eight years ago, today. World Wrestling Entertainment aired their 2014 edition of SummerSlam, LIVE on PPV from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

In the main event of that night, Brock Lesnar challenged fellow WWE Ruthless Aggression Era Legend John Cena for the Unified WWE World Heavyweight Title. Fresh off a Wrestlemania 30 win (where Lesnar broke The Undertaker’s undefeated WrestleMania Streak a few months prior to this match), Lesnar absolutely destroyed his opponent to capture his first WWE Title since 2003.

John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar served as Summerslam 2014 main event

During this main event match at Summerslam 2014, Suplex City became a reality as Lesnar hit almost a dozen of them before pinning John Cena with an F-5. As noted by Michael Cole during that match, perhaps no other previous world title match featuring Cena was that much one-sided encounter.

This match eventually marked the beginning of John Cena’s downgrade on the WWE roster as he was about to enter the Hollywood scenario. On the other hand, Brock Lesnar massacred his way to a title win and he also remained unpinned on WWE TV until Survivor Series 2016.
