For the first time ever, All Elite Wrestling will jointly present a PPV named Forbidden Door 2022 in association with another company in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. In one of the top matches of the evening, an NJPW star will challenge for the AEW World Title. On the flip side, one of the top stars from the AEW roster will go after the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
Adam Hangman Page has started gunning for another World Championship reign starting with Forbidden Door 2022 but this time, he is going after the World Title from NJPW.
After a physical bout, Hangman Page achieved a victory over NJPW’s David Finlay on last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite. The final moments of the match saw the former AEW World Champion connecting with his pendant Buckshot Lariat to score the pinfall win over the New Japan star.
Page then grabbed a microphone after the match concluded and cut an intriguing promo by saying that the AEW World Title isn’t the only one in pro wrestling. He also announced that at NJPW Forbidden Door 2022 on June 26, he wants to face the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada for the Title.

Adam Cole could also be seen in a world title match at Forbidden Door 2022
Apparently, Page wasn’t the only one who wanted a shot at the IWGP world title. Adam Cole interrupted him by saying that Okada might not be the World Champion on June 26 during Forbidden Door 2022 because he has a title defense against The Bullet Club leader, Jay White, at the NJPW Dominion event scheduled on June 12.
Cole also explained that he won the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament while Hangman just lost the World Title at Double or Nothing. Hence, it should be Cole who deserves the IWGP World Heavyweight Title match.
There’s no update on who would ultimately be facing Okada for the IWGP Title at Forbidden Door 2022 but both these two top AEW Superstars are coming after the belt. It’s possible that a match will be announced between these two to determine the contender.
As for the AEW world title, an interim titleholder would be crowned at Forbidden Door. One of the contestants in that match would be Jon Moxley who defeated Kyle O’Reilly in the main event of this week’s AEW Dynamite. NJPW’s Hiroshi Tanahashi or Hirooki Goti will be the other participant as they will battle for the spot at NJPW Dominion on June 12.
