Goldberg is one of the most protected characters that the professional wrestling business had ever seen. He’s considered a legend by many fans who could have earned more if continuing his career properly during his heyday. But that didn’t stop him from getting into the WWE Hall of Fame. The former WWE Universal Champion has been away from competition for a few months now which raised some doubts among the fans.

There are fans who hope to see Goldberg in one more match, at least and they should be happy with the latest update that the superstar himself has to offer.

In a recent interview with The New York Post, the former world heavyweight champion provided clarification on his WWE contract status, revealing that his contractual obligation with the WWE is done when it comes to performing the scheduled number of matches in a calendar year. However, he is still signed to WWE.

Goldberg opened up on his future with the WWE

Proceeding to mention his future with the company, Goldberg mentioned that he “still hasn’t gotten cut on because you never know when the phone’s gonna ring.” He also noted that he’s in “pretty good damn shape right now” in comparison to his final match in a WWE ring, earlier this year.

“I’m still waiting for that one [call] to happen one of these days,” Goldberg said. “But I suppose you never retire in the wrestling world until you’re dead, so who knows.”

Goldberg needs to fix his shoulder with a surgery

The WWE Hall of Famer added in the conversation that he will eventually require surgery to fix his injured shoulder, which is “absolutely destroyed over the past four or five years.” During his TV time in the WWE, he was somehow “able to hide it [injury] from everybody” but eventually needed to be fixed.

“I have worked my ass off day, after day, after day to get to a point where I feel almost normal again,” Goldberg said. “I just kind of needed that break. I needed the mental focus of understanding that surgery wasn’t an option at the time and I needed to put my ass to the grindstone.”

Goldberg was in action at Elimination Chamber 2022

The last time we have seen Goldberg in the ring was at Elimination Chamber in February as he challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship to come up short. Since then, there has been some uncertainty over his career in the WWE given his age. But as of this writing, he’s still not a free agent but rather a WWE Superstar.
