Over the past few months, chatters have picked up over Legendary Goldberg’s in-ring status be it within or outside the WWE. Many do believe that when the time is right, WWE might just bring back the veteran for one more match, probably his final one before he hangs up his boots, for good. However, it should also be noted that he’s no more under contract with the company in the first place.

Now, Goldberg has seemingly opened up about his career and also took a shot at the WWE for not arranging the proper send-off that he needs. If the comments of the WWE Hall of Famer are to be believed then the formerly Vince McMahon-owned brand had broken its promise and taken away one final proper retirement match from him.

While speaking with 93.7 The Ticket, Goldberg revealed that he had a handshake agreement with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon about having one final retirement match in the company. This came after the former WCW franchise player lost to Roman Reigns in a Universal Title match at Crown Jewel in February 2022.

Goldberg wants to retire from competition on his own terms

Now it appears that WWE broke the promise but they won’t be able to make him stop, anyway. Goldberg proceeded to mention that he likes to do things his own way and he doesn’t want anyone to tell him when to end his career. Furthermore, the former Universal Champion made it clear that he wants to go out on his own terms.

“Vince McMahon and I had a handshake understanding that, you know, after the Roman Reigns match I would have a proper retirement match. And, you know, that hasn’t come to fruition through them. So, therefore… You know, nobody puts a stamp on my career. Nobody tells me when I’m done, period,” Goldberg made a bold statement.

“When somebody tells me that, you know, I kinda like to fight against it. I like to do things my own way and I go out my own way. And I certainly don’t go out, you know, under Roman Reigns, you know, three weeks after I’ve had Covid and agreed to a match.” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)

With WWE possibly not interested to bring Goldberg back for the much-needed retirement match, rumors are there that the legendary name might show up in AEW. Tony Khan is reportedly keeping a close eye on his next move. Only time will tell whether AEW bring another former WCW Superstar under their banner after Sting.
