Becky Lynch had to wait a long time in her career to experience success in comparison to her contemporaries. While her Four Horsewomen colleagues, Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, and Bayley all had the opportunity to taste championship victories on NXT, it was only the Irish star who had to wait two more years to experience the same. Admittedly, that was a tough pill to swallow for her.

During a recent interview on After The Bell Podcast with Corey Graves and Kevin Patrick, Becky Lynch revisited the days of NXT in earlier last decade. She discussed the challenges she had to face while working in the developmental brand. It was never a comfortable situation for her in the first place. It was more of a grinding process rather than a learning process.

Becky Lynch admitted that she wasn’t an entitled persona on the WWE roster

Per the comments of Becky Lynch, she never truly found comfort during her tenure in NXT. But that changed soon after she arrived on the main roster as she felt more at ease. She gained more confidence on the main roster while NXT presented with constant uncertainty. With the constant pressure of proving her potential, she was on the fear of losing her spot.

Acknowledging that she wasn’t a privileged person, Becky Lynch noted that she never had the luxury of instant success as a future bonafide star. Eventually, this led her to go with the adaption mode. With nothing to lose, she could have gone through several characters and roles. For example, the NXT gig included a silly Irish jig performer and a little old lady magician. Ultimately, she wanted to secure her place on the roster.

Becky Lynch felt more confident on the WWE main roster

“I don’t know that I ever felt comfortable in NXT. From the moment I got on RAW, I felt way more comfortable than I ever did in NXT. I think a lot of that was I was always on the chopping block. Like, I was always on the chopping block. It’s kind of one of those things where you say to people, like, ‘Oh, no, I wasn’t good’, and they go, ‘Oh yeah, sure, sure,’” Becky Lynch stated.

“The great thing about me was I didn’t really have anything to lose and I didn’t have any shame, so I get up there and I do a silly Irish jig and I played crazy characters like little old lady magician and all this different stuff and hoped something stuck, because I was like, well you know what? They’re not going to book me like I’m the next Goldberg.”

The constant hustle on NXT made her even more determined which improved her performances by the time. Becky Lynch could thus set up the connection with the fans despite not being a handpicked one. Her constant journey through the turmoil attracted the audiences and ultimately it was appreciated.

“I think I had the luxury of feeling like I never made it or like I was never going to make it and I think that was a blessing because it never allowed me to become complacent or entitled. I just always had to work and I had to grind. I think that’s what made everything better and I also think that’s what has endeared me to the fans. I think they see that.” (quotes courtesy Sescoops)

Becky Lynch was signed with the WWE in April 2013 as part of the NXT developmental brand. She never got to become NXT Women’s Champion but her popular act in NXT made her an organic babyface name. WWE took their time before finally giving her the push and churning out one of the most popular superstars of the modern generation.
