Renee Paquette fka Renee Young in the WWE made history, almost five years ago by regularly appearing in the commentary booth, a place that was mostly occupied by veteran male names. To date, this stint is considered one of the pioneer acts for one of the most popular broadcasters to have ever appeared on WWE TV. However, it appears that the female name was forced upon to do the job.

Doing professional wrestling commentary isn’t as simple as it looks on television. The commentators not only have to make the audience aware of what was going on inside the ring act-by-act but they also have to maintain the kayfabe perspective of the business via listening to the instructions that are always incoming through the earpiece from their producers.

“I Was Not Ready To Do Commentary,” Renee Paquette Blasts WWE 1

In the case of Renee Paquette, the experience admittedly deteriorated as she struggled to cope with an angry boss (Vince McMahon) screaming in her ear from time to time. In the end, the current AEW journalist surrendered by saying that the commentary booth in the WWE wasn’t the most familiar zone that she had expected.

Renee Paquette recently appeared on Insight with Chris Van Vliet where she discussed her time when she was elevated to the commentary booth instead of doing backstage interviews with the WWE Superstars. While speaking, she also criticized WWE’s system which failed to establish new announcers over the years.

“It’s not that there’s not enough respect put on what commentary needs and to be good at commentary, they do understand that. But a lot of times they’re like, ‘Okay well, put Renee on, she’ll be good! She’s good in these other things, let’s put her on commentary.’ I was not ready to do commentary.”

Despite the tough aspects of the job, Michael Cole has been a WWE commentator for over 20 years and Renee Paquette was quick to credit him to be the “voice of the WWE” for over two decades,

“Michael Cole has been doing commentary for what? Like 20 years or something? And I think now he finally does get the credit…He’s so great and he’s got such thick skin. I assure you it does not rattle him when people wanna talk a little s**t.”
