Saraya is considered to be a trailblazer for the female superstars of the pro wrestling industry who led the path for many of the young generation’s talents. She has accomplished a lot in WWE during her time in the company which lasted for almost a decade. But her in-ring stint came to an end in 2018 due to a neck concussion. This happened after spending just 4 years on the main roster since its debut.
After sitting out of action for four more years, WWE decided not to renew her contract in mid-2022 and Saraya took the chance to jump ship to AEW, quickly. It has been a while since the United Kingdom native has come back to competition as a super babyface figure which was pretty obvious. However, it seems that the veteran is more than willing to become an on-screen villain in the future like WWE.
While speaking to Pro Wrestling Bits, Saraya made it clear that she would love to turn heel in AEW. She emphasized the fact that she could unfold the layers of a heel character as per her wish because her input would be considered to go to AEW TV which wasn’t the case in WWE since Vince McMahon used to control each small bit of creative things when he was in control.
“I would love to be a heel if I’m being honest. I have so many different ideas being a heel, and I always say to people it’s so much easier to be a heel than a babyface because it’s hard, especially in today’s world, to get people to like you straight out of the gate. So, I’m actually going to start from scratch again, but being a heel, it’s so easy to get people to hate you,” Saraya said.
Saraya had quite an illustrious career in WWE
Saraya had a tremendous career in WWE under the name of Paige. Even when she wasn’t an adult, she became a WWE Superstar and then the first-ever WWE NXT Women’s Champion to create history. Within a few months, she had the most unique debut on the main roster in 2014 where she became the Divas Champion by ending the then-longest-reigning title reign of AJ Lee.
Following her retirement from WWE, Saraya has featured in a variety of roles in WWE before the company let her go under the Vince McMahon-led regime. She then came to AEW to become a staple, instantly. As expected, the anti-diva made her in-ring return at AEW Full Gear in November 2022 by defeating Dr. Britt Baker. This was her first match in over five years and down the road, she’s expected to be in regular competition for AEW.
