Io Shirai is the reigning Women’s Champion on the NXT roster who is also considered to be a cornerstone figure of the brand. Before coming to the States, she used to be a pro-wrestling celebrity in Japan where she started her career and gradually excelled in it. With the help of WWE signing, she had just spread her wings to get more popular and famous.
Considering that Japan would always be her home, it meant a lot for her to record a video and send it to be used for STARDOM’s Anniversary show, earlier this month. In the meantime, Io Shirai herself also celebrated an anniversary of her own in the professional wrestling circuit which was disclosed via a post on Twitter.
How AJ Styles Sacrificed WWE Career For Wife Wendy Jones
The reigning WWE NXT Women’s Champion recently posted two photos using her Twitter handle. Alongside Japanese captions, the photos had written “How It Stared… How It’s Going” over it that was only a following of a recent trend. We can understand that these photos were very special for Io Shirai as she has just completed 15 years in the pro wrestling business.
“March 4th was my professional wrestling debut day yesterday. Thank you to everyone who gave us a congratulatory tweet etc.
The 15th year starts from today.”

Io Shirai getting ready for a title defense
Io Shirai has already experienced a lot in her career to become a veteran and it’s just a matter of moments that she would rack up some more accolades after arriving on the main roster. As congratulations have been poured in for her big achievement, she is approaching for yet another huge title defense during her current title reign, this upcoming Wednesday night.
Toni Storm will challenge her in a singles contest over the title for the very first time. Previously at NXT TakeOver Vengeance Day, Shirai retained in a Triple Threat also featuring Storm and Mercedes Martinez. Storm complained how she was never pinned or submitted by the champion which set up the upcoming title match between the two bright future female stars of the WWE main roster.
Both these ladies had a ton of experience around the professional wrestling circuit. This is the reason why Io Shirai had to send in a video for STARDOM’s 10th Anniversary. It is available on Stardom’s YouTube channel. For those who don’t know, Shirai wrestled for Stardom from 2011 to 2018 where she was a two-time World of Stardom Champion.
