It took a little longer for AEW to get Renee Paquette onboard on their TV via a deal after she left WWE. However, She finally signed a contract in the summer of 2022 and showed up at Tony Khan’s company to join her husband Jon Moxley on the roster. It went down during AEW Dynamite making its debut in former Renee Young’s hometown of Toronto, Canada.
Since joining the AEW promotion, Renee Paquette is serving as one of the backstage interviewers and sports enthusiasts on the roster. Since she never spoiled her relationship with the WWE, many believed her to be back with the now Endeavor-owned brand after getting over her pregnancy days. Conversations with the company had also commenced but it admittedly made more sense for her to go to AEW.
Renee Paquette recently opened up about her return to professional wrestling in 2022 during an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet. She went on to explain why AEW made sense to her because firstly it was where her husband Jon Moxley also works as a wrestler. But at the same time, this appeared to be the promotion where she wanted to start an exciting new chapter she wanted “to be a part of” in her early years.
“I Was Not Ready To Do Commentary,” Renee Paquette Blasts WWE
Renee Paquette wanted to get out of her house for work purposes following pregnancy hiatus
Following her departure from the WWE, Renee Paquette was featured in interviews with people through her Oral Sessions Podcast by taking interviews of personalities from the wrestling business and beyond. But she also wanted to get the feeling of not working from home which made her a weary person sitting at home. The popular face “sort of needed to get out of the house” and “needed to get back to being me.”
“I had been having preliminary conversations with WWE about maybe going back there and just maybe doing pay-per-views or some specials,” Renee Paquette further stated on her contract negotiations with the WWE and AEW.
“And then you know, it really kind of dawned on both me and Jon that we’re like, man, this is where it’s going to go and this is what we’re going to do, of course it makes more sense for me to be in AEW and just to kind of see all the things that AEW had to offer us — not only being on the road with my husband, but to be a part of this like young, upstart, fun, really kind of changing up the whole scene of pro wrestling.” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)
Renee Paquette was a familiar face in WWE as Renee Young from 2012 until 2020. She left the company after her deal was up in the summer of 2020. Later it was revealed that she took time away from the company due to the birth of her daughter Nora alongside her husband Jon Moxley. Following the initial motherhood phase, she resurfaced on TV via AEW programming.
