IYO SKY entered the WWE Raw roster during last year’s Summerslam and thereby ended speculations around her WWE exit. While many thought that she would go back to Japan after getting over the NXT stint, she ultimately decided to stay under the WWE banner as a main roster member. Now it appears that a strong push is coming on her way.
With already one member short of the DAMAGE CTRL stable, WWE could finally pull the trigger on them to churn out a singles push on IYO SKY. According to a recent report from Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, there are discussions within WWE about a potential babyface for the Japanese superstar. The initial setup has an obvious feud in store between her and her current DAMAGE CTRL stablemate Bayley.

It is also believed that WWE Women’s Champion Asuka will eventually turn into a jobber to a fresh talent on Smackdown when she drops her belt to that particular name and IYO SKY fits perfectly into this scenario, down the road. The one Japanese superstar is currently being touted to dethrone her native-land superstar Asuka to become the new women’s champion of the blue brand.
IYO SKY got tremendous reception from Backlash crowd in Puerto Rico
Over the past few months, IYO SKY has never failed to impress the WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H. To date, she received only one solo championship shot on WWE programming and during that match, she experiences wild reception from the Puerto Rico crowd at WWE Backlash despite being a heel. This further fueled up the chances of her finally having a successful singles championship run on the main roster.
At present, IYO SKY is scheduled to compete in the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match on July 1 in the United Kingdom. Better Wrestling Experience (BWE) has also recently suggested that she is being considered to be a top contender to win the briefcase. The match will feature other formidable names from Raw and Smackdown also including Bayley.
Competing for the same Money in the Bank briefcase may finally form a crack between Bayley and IYO SKY. We’ll have to wait and see what WWE finally plans for her but at this point, it seems winning the Money in the Bank briefcase and using it to become the next women’s champion seems the most valid option for her.
