John Cena was seen in action after December 30 Smackdown
By featuring in the final episode of Smackdown on December 30, John Cena accomplished the rare feat of competing in a WWE ring every calendar year since his debut match on June 25, 2002, against WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle.
The WWE veteran was visibly emotional after competing on Smackdown and he addressed the fans after the taped show was over with a promo,
“This year was the first year that [wrestling a WWE match] wasn’t supposed to happen. So, I found out that the last event of the year was right here in my backyard in Tampa Bay. I want to thank you as a community for welcoming me with open arms.”
According to PWInsider, John Cena was ambushed by Zayn and The Usos before that promo session. Eventually, Owens, Drew McIntyre, and The Brawling Brutes came out to make the save. Zayn was also punished by the AA maneuver by the returnee.
