John Cena’s Time Will Be Limited During His 2023 WWE Return

John Cena was back to WWE programming on the December 30th episode of SmackDown which was the final TV taping for the WWE in 2022. On that night, he teamed up with Kevin Owens to defeat The Bloodline’s Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn.

By competing in this match, John Cena’s streak of having at least one match in WWE every year since 2002 remained intact. It was great for the WWE Universe, any way to have a mainstream star like him to be back on TV that pulled Smackdown viewership to a large extent. Besides, the 16-time World Champion seemed extremely thankful to the audience for letting him perform in front of them.

There have been some speculations about Cena possibly not working WrestleMania 39, as he will be filming a movie in Australia in February and March. It means that he won’t be available in the build-up for his match if he ultimately gets booked in one. However, reports also confirmed that despite his busy schedule, Cethe veteran is expected to make himself available for WrestleMania Hollywood.

John Cena can only offer limited dates to WWE

However, the extent of his appearances on WWE programming could be very few as revealed by WWE Executive Road Dogg. The DX member has revealed that John Cena returning to WWE as a full-time competitor is very difficult, as he can only provide limited dates to the company. Speaking on his Oh You Didn’t Know podcast, he went into more detail regarding the situation,

“He can’t come back forever, you know what I mean? He’s only going to come back for a certain amount of dates because he’s got other career opportunities. So that would be great, you could bring Cena back.

I [Cena] can show up on the go-home, I can show up on the pay-per-view, and you got one more. So, sprinkle it in where you can, you know what I mean? Like that’s the deals that are made. It’s not ‘we got Cena, let’s do whatever we want.”

Wrestlemania 39: Major Gimmick Match Rumored For WWE PLE In April

John Cena is currently rumored for a huge match at WrestleMania 39, set to take place in Hollywood. The opponents to be put against him are Austin Theory or Logan Paul or LA Knight as per the reports but nothing is confirmed at this point.
