One of the most popular faces from WWE’s old Divas division is Barbie Blank who is mostly known around the circuit as Kelly Kelly.
Some of the fans and WWE stars ay find her to be the most beautiful female athlete to step into that squared circle. But she appeared to be a beauty who does have the charisma to entertain the audience and that eventually gave her two separate runs with the title.
Former Divas Champion Kelly Kelly Returning To WWE In A Semi-Role
WWE introduced a butterfly-shaped title named the Divas Championship back in 2008. Later they renamed the entire women’s division as the Divas division as enough star power was not present following the departure of names like Trish Stratus, Lita, Mickie James and more.

A few like Kelly Kelly, Beth Phoenix, Natalya, Eve Torres were able to get success in the initial Divas era and all of them held the belt which signified beauty rather than their athleticism.
Kelly Kelly recently opened up on her first Divas Championship win while talking to Chris Van Vliet. She recalled going to Vince McMahon and expressing her desire to have a run with the Divas Title. Vince responded positively, “‘let’s do it, why not? Let’s see what happens?’”

This led to a segment in the WWE where they had a People Power voting segment which Kelly Kelly reacted as, “I don’t think they do it anymore, but people would get on their phones.”
She went on to explain how that special voting segment led to her title win. The then-champion Brie Bella had to defend the belt against Kelly Kelly, Beth Phoenix or Eve Torres.
Based on fan popularity, WWE Universe’s favorite, Barbie Doll ended up being the new challenger for Brie Bella. The decision was made right before the match was about to begin.
So Kelly Kelly got to know about her title win just before walking into the ring to compete in the title match. Here’s what she had to say about the moment,
“It was me against Brie Bella and there were three matches and they wouldn’t even tell us. It was either me, Eve Torres, or Beth Phoenix and we didn’t know up until — but we knew who was gonna win was gonna win the belt off of Brie Bella. So, right until five seconds before my name was called, that’s when we knew.”
“I just remember my name being called and I was so emotional and that’s why I was crying. It was like all this hard work paid off the office recognized, the fans were so happy.”
Nights like people-power used to happen on WWE Raw to make the night unpredictable as well as interesting. People in attendance became happy as they got to run the show or some segments, as per their wish.
It’s good to know that such a fan-voting gimmick was able to give birth to such a surprising moment. It would be great to get such nights back on Raw programming, for a welcoming change.
