WWE News: Kelly Kelly Speaks On ECW Expose & Her Family’s Reaction
Kelly Kelly used to be perhaps the most gorgeous WWE Diva during her prime. With the real-name of Barbie Blank, she easily fitted in the role of WWE’s resident Barbie doll.
The company also used her hotness quotient to the maximum limit putting her in the role of an exhibitionist. They had to take the advantage as TV-PG rule was not applied back then.
In case you don’t remember the history of Kelly Kelly, we should remind you that she entered the company at an age of just 19 years.
She was the youngest in the locker room who started performing in ECW from 2006 onwards. Especially for her, the show used to air an Extreme Expose segment where she regularly stripped.
It must have been difficult for a female to do that in front of a live audience, that too at a tender age.
During a recent appearance on Lilian Garcia’s “Chasing Glory” podcast, the former WWE Divas Champion opened up on a myriad of topics. She talked about working in WWE/ECW at the age of 19, her exhibitionist gimmick and more.
Kelly Kelly started by saying that it was an insane debut night for her in ECW. They literally threw her out in front of a pack of wolves that is the hardcore fans of ECW.
They booed her out if the building during a bikini contest she was part of. Below is what Kelly Kelly talked about her exhibitionist gimmick,
“I had to dance on live television, strip down to basically a bra and underwear, and then really go further and take the bra off, and then Mike Knox, my jealous boyfriend on the show at the time, would have to cover me up.
And I’m 19, I have no rhythm number one, I can’t dance, I’m trying to get naked in front of millions of people, this is insane.”
Now Kelly Kelly’s father has always been a fan of pro-wrestling, all his life. He was excited about her daughter finally making it to the pro-wrestling scene.
But then he and the family found out that she was basically stripping on TV. Obviously, the reactions from them were not good. But Kelly Kelly was able to defend herself,
“The whole family was like, ‘Well, you got your foot in the door.’ I didn’t tell them what I was doing that [first] night, I just had them watch, and they were like ‘Why didn’t you tell us you were doing that?’ And I was like, ‘Well because you were gonna watch.’
And I was like, ‘It’s not always going to be like this, guys, we’re getting the foot in the door, just going to see how long this goes, they’ll eventually put me in a position where I don’t have to do this anymore.’
Because I know how wrestling works, you’re not always going to do the same storyline forever.”
Kelly Kelly was able to break the glass ceiling, later in her career. She won the Divas Championship on two different occasions giving the fans one more reason to remember her name in the WWE.
She recently came back on Raw reunion episode to become the first-ever Women’s 24/7 Champion.
