Legendary Sting used to be a WWE Superstar but he is no longer under contract with the company. He has now become a free agent. Although retired, there’s still could be chances for him that he laces up the boots, yet again. AEW is always a possibility for someone like him who is considered to be a pioneer as WWE was unable to keep him under their banner.
Sting no longer has a page on the WWE Shop website as the company reportedly pulled all of his merchandise from the WWE Legends section of the website. This stirred up the pro-wrestling industry while speculating about the future of the veteran.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Sting’s WWE Legends Contract has expired. It actually was up, several months ago and thus WWE is no more contractually obligated to sell items related to him. It’s not known why he didn’t sign a new contract.
Legendary Sting No More Under Contract With WWE
A timeframe of up to six months is always kept on behalf of the WWE so that they can continue to sell merchandise of both Superstars and Legends even after their contracts expire. Meltzer gave the example of Brock Lesnar, whose contract expired in April but the merchandise was actually pulled from the website a few months after that. The situation is somewhat similar to Sting.

The Observer also noted that the initial contract Sting signed with WWE could possibly have more than just to be on the Alumni roster of the company. As of now, there are currently 61 legends [including factions] that are enlisted in WWE’s Alumni section. Check out more on the situation as stated by the source,
“It’s up, and it’s been up for a while because that’s the thing when you pull merchandise — like with the Lesnar thing — that means your contract was up six months ago because they have a period where they’re allowed to sell your stuff, so that period must have ended.”
“I don’t know the timeframe, but it’s a several month timeframe. So, for whatever reason, I mean I would not imagine that they would not want Sting, although the deal they made for Sting at the time they made the deal may have been, you know a lot more than a normal Legends guy. Maybe they didn’t want it. You know, I don’t know the situation as far as what was offered Sting or if anything was offered Sting — maybe if they felt like they got all the use out of Sting that they can because he’s not going to wrestle again?” (Transcription by Ringside News)
Reports also claim that there is a huge “temptation” for AEW possibly roping in Sting in a deal. He may not wrestle, but the presence of The Vigilante could be a difference maker. He could either be in some wrestler’s corner or just make a general PPV appearance. But the company might just wait till crowds return to the shows.
