On paper, Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch is still an expectation for Wrestlemania 39 in a dream lineup. “The Baddest Woman on the Planet” going up against “The Man” on the biggest stage in all of the professional wrestling has been under speculation for a long time but it may not come to a reality after recent happenings on Smackdown.

Ronda Rousey has dropped her Smackdown Women’s Championship and with that move, WWE had also possibly scrapped her match with the longest-reigning Raw Women’s Champion of all time. Per the reports from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s original plan for the UFC Hall of Famer’s current run consisted of two mega matches.

While one of them became a reality after she faced Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 38, the other one was to take on Becky Lynch at the 2023 edition of WrestleMania aka Wrestlemania Hollywood. However, the storylines on Smackdown, WWE isn’t taking Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch direction, and “right now it is very unlikely” that will happen at the Show of Shows in April.

Ronda Rousey dropped her Smackdown Women’s Title to Charlotte Flair

It was on the December 30 episode of Smackdown that Ronda Rousey defeated Raquel Rodriguez to retain the SmackDown Women’s Championship. However, Charlotte Flair then made her return to WWE programming for the first time since WrestleMania Backlash in May 2022. It was easy for her to pin the weary champion and become a 14-time World Champion, herself.

Ronda Rousey is an overall three-time WWE women’s world champion who held the latest women’s championship for 83 days before dropping it to Flair. WWE is yet to begin its WrestleMania card builds that should commence in late January and February which still leaves the scope of seeing a feud with Lynch to unfold. We’ll have to wait and see whether WWE again switches up the plans and book the match, after all.

But for that match to happen, anyone from Becky Lynch or Ronda Rousey has to travel across the brands. Lynch had started 2022 as a champion but she lost the Raw Women’s Title to Bianca Belair at Wrestlemania 38. She came up short in trying to regain the title from Belair at Summerslam. She was then sidelined for almost five months due to a shoulder injury before coming back to action at WWE’s Survivor Series premium live event in November 2022.
