Maria Kanellis and her husband Mike Bennett were released by WWE in April 2020 as part of the COVID-19 budget cuts. After a brief hiatus, the two eventually returned to ROH but that run couldn’t long last as the company won’t renew their upcoming seasons. The duo was also grateful to WWE for providing them with an opportunity to work for the company but it’s time for them to find a new stable.
Maria Kanellis returned to WWE back in 2017 as she and her husband Mike Bennett signed contracts, together. But that stint came to an unfortunate end after having an unsuccessful run for over three years. Prior to that, the couple had a run on Impact for a year and perhaps their comeback will happen in the future.
It was noted in a recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Bennett appears to be headed back to Impact which automatically brings the speculation on Maria Kanellis returning to the company alongside her.

Maria Kanellis could have signed a contract with Impact
The speculation came after Bennett recently pulled himself out of a January independent booking and the promoter was reportedly told that a scheduling conflict could happen with a set of Impact tapings. At present, Bennett and Maria Kanellis are free agents (but they did appear on Impact Hard to Kill) as they were under contract to ROH but as noted the promotion went on to have a break that is expected to end in April 2022.
Impact Wrestling will host the Hard To Kill pay-per-view on January 8 in Dallas, Texas, and then some more TV tapings, the very next day. They will also tape TV episodes on January 21 and January 22 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. There’s no update available on whether Mike and Maria Kanellis will come back to the company during these upcoming TV tapings.
WWE Raw Veteran Reflects On Maria Kanellis-John Cena Love Story
As noted, the two former WWE Superstars previously worked for Impact from January 2016 – March 2017. Mike became a one-time X Division Champion during that timespan while Maria Kanellis became a one-time Impact Knockouts Champion before they left the company. This was also the only women’s title that she had won in her entire career. In the WWE, she won the 24/7 Championship before the release.
