Maria Kanellis was never touted to be an excellent in-ring performer but that didn’t stop her from enjoying an impressive career in professional wrestling. Over the timespan of almost two decades, she spent time in five different top companies which is a rare achievement only shared with her former AEW colleague, Brandi Rhodes. Currently, she is with the AEW but she won’t be seen on TV for some time due to a recent surgery.
Taking to Instagram at the very beginning of February Maria Kanellis informed that she has been dealing with Thyroid problems for a long time and that it needed to be taken care of. She also mentioned how having a family and then the COVID-19 pandemic pushed back the surgery,
“I’ve been have symptoms for the past 2 and a half years. Heart racing, trouble with weight loss, skin changes, exhaustion, mood changes, sore throat, anxiety, period changes, raspy voice, trouble swallowing, brain fog, calcium deficiency, amongst others. But, with having 2 kids, the Pandemic, and multiple times being fired I just didn’t have the time to really focus on it.”

After learning that she acquired “abnormal cells” that could even cause cancer and possibly result in atrial fibrillation, rapid, heartbeat that can cause poor blood flow, Maria Kanellis finally decided to go under the knife.

Maria Kanellis’ husband confirmed her already done surgery
In a subsequent tweet, Mike Kanellis updated fans that his wife indeed had thyroid surgery. Alongside a photo of his lady love, he also informed that a lot has been going on in their lives at this point,
“Mama has thyroid surgery. Carver turns 3 today. Freddie is doing a Pom Dance at the High School Basketball game tonight. We will tackle today like we tackle everything…as a family.”
With the “full support” of AEW and the boss Tony Khan, Maria Kanellis had undergone her surgery. The current plans call for her to return to work in two weeks of time without any restrictions. However, the surgery scar as well as the hormonal balance in her body will become normal in about a year.
After launching her career in the early 2000s by appearing in various independent promotions, Maria Kanellis subsequently joined WWE in 2005 as a part of the Diva Search series. She left WWE in 2010, but returned in 2017 but then again got released in 2020 amid the COVID-19-related budget cuts.
