In one of the major attractions from the Money in the Bank 2023 premium live event, the World Heavyweight Championship was on the line. The reigning champion eventually retained his title and continued with his historic first reign on the Raw brand. But his title win didn’t come without any sort of controversy as outside interference influenced the match outcome.

At Money in the Bank 2023, in the World Heavyweight Championship Match, Seth Rollins (c) defeated Finn Balor to retain his title. During the match, Damian Priest stood at ringside and it was his presence that caused a distraction for the challenger.

Balor hit the shotgun dropkick and then went for his coup de grâce finisher, but Rollins escaped the spot and hit him with a discus clothesline. He then connected with only for Balor to kick out at two. Damian Priest then came out with his newly-own Money in the Bank 2023 briefcase.

Rollins wasn’t happy with Priest coming out and sitting at ringside like this. Taking advantage of the situation, Balor hit the coup de grâce on Rollins, then repeated the move and sent him back into the ring. Balor hit another shotgun dropkick but Priest got up, and Balor became distracted. Balor then missed the coup de grâce again as Rollins capitalized by executing The Stomp on him for the victory at Money in the Bank 2023.

This marked Rollins’ third overall TV title defense since winning the World Heavyweight Title at Night of Champions. In the latest, he defeated Bron Breakker at NXT Gold Rush, a week ago. Prior to that, he defeated Damian Priest in his first title defense where Balor interfered in the encounter and cost Priest the opportunity. At Money in the Bank 2023, Priest returned the favor which could mark a fresh feud between the two Judgment Day members.

Earlier in the night, in Men’s Money in the Bank 2023 Ladder Match, Damian Priest defeated LA Knight, Logan Paul, Ricochet, Shinsuke Nakamura, Santos Escobar, and Butch to win the MITB contract. Now he has a guaranteed future world championship match opportunity that he could exercise on either Seth Rollins or Roman Reigns.
