Weeks of speculations regarding Drew McIntyre and his status with the WWE came to an end at Money in the Bank 2023. The top WWE Raw Superstars ultimately made his return to the WWE programming for the first time in almost three months and thereby confirmed that he’s going nowhere away from the WWE.

At Money in the Bank 2023, in the scheduled Intercontinental Championship Match, Gunther (c) defeated Matt Riddle to retain the Title. Soon after the match, Drew McIntyre returned to WWE programming and took out Gunther with a Claymore Kick to make a bold statement. He eventually ended the segment after posing with the Intercontinental Title.

This appearance at Money in the Bank 2023 made sense from a storyline perspective as Drew McIntyre was last seen at Wrestlemania 39 in early April. On that night, he ended up losing the triple threat match for the same title at the Grandest Stage of Them All featuring Gunther and Sheamus. The Scottish Warrior is now back with a vengeful mind which indicates a mid-card championship win.

Heading into Money in the Bank 2023, there have been rumors that WWE wanted Drew McIntyre to be present at the PLE since it was being held in his home country of the United Kingdom. Despite being part of the 2023 WWE Draft, factors like creative issues and reported injuries were the reasons behind him not coming back to the WWE.

Hours before Money in the Bank 2023, PWInsider noted that WWE and Drew McIntyre had finally come to terms on a new contract which made last evening’s presence a reality,

“WWE wanted Drew McIntyre to return by today’s Money in the Bank PPV. That process had been impeded according to sources by McIntyre wanting a strong storyline upon his return. WWE got what they wanted as the two sides came to an agreement over the last few days and McIntyre will enter into a program with GUNTHER. He will be back on Raw as of this Monday.”

With McIntyre back on the scene at Money in the Bank 2023, WWE finally got one top contender to dethrone Gunther from his record-breaking title reign. It’s likely that these two will finally collide in a singles contest at Summerslam.
