Just a couple of days ago, WWE dropped breaking news regarding the Money in the Bank 2023 premium live event. It was announced last that the fifth big event in the WWE calendar will be taking place on Saturday, July 1 at the O2 Arena in London, England. It will be the very first time in WWE history that the show will be taking place overseas. Following Elimination Chamber, this will also be the second WWE Network Specials to be hosted outside the USA zone in 2023.

Fightful Select has now shared some backstage news regarding the location of Money in the Bank 2023. Speaking to several WWE sources about the decision of running the show from the O2 Arena as opposed to a stadium, they got to know that WWE Officials viewed the O2 Arena as the “Madison Square Garden of England.” It’s a venue that they always ran events from and they wanted to travel back to it.
Money in the Bank 2023 added to WWE’s Big-Five schedule
Another WWE source said that “running a show of this magnitude” helps establish the importance of the gimmick-based event as one of WWE’s biggest events. Money in the Bank 2023 has been included as WWE’s Big-Five PPV events as opposed to WWE’s previous Big-Four listings, namely Wrestlemania, Summerslam, Survivor Series, and Royal Rumble.
Fightful Select also commented on the rumors that were surrounding Money in the Bank 2023. They were reportedly told that the annual event going away from the WWE calendar was never “seriously considered.” At present “no booking plans are set yet” but the good thing is that it will be happening as a separate event, unlike the previous rumors that MITB matches could be pushed back to Wrestlemania.
Per the report, the picking of the location, date, and venue for Money in the Bank 2023 was a collaborative effort, instead of just WWE co-CEO Nick Khan’s consideration. For those who don’t know, Khan is majorly credited for the dates and locations picked for the successful events in the bygone 2022 calendar year.
Last year’s Money In The Bank was previously scheduled from the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada but it was relocated to the MGM Grand Arena in the same city due to lower ticket sales. So, WWE probably didn’t want a stadium to be under consideration for the 2023 edition in the first place.
