This past week, WWE created history during the Crown Jewel pay-per-view event in Saudi Arabia. For the first time ever, two women wrestlers competed in a televised match in front of the live audience.
Natalya competed against Lacey Evans in a singles contest and end up winning the match. It created a ray of hopes for the female wrestling aspirants in the country that they too can dream big of becoming future pro-wrestlers.

During an interview with Yahoo Sports, WWE RAW Superstar Natalya shared the backstage story of this matchup. She revealed what WWE told her and Lacey Evans before their historic women’s division match in the middle-eastern country. It was two days ago that they actually got to know about the possibility of competing in the Kingdom.
Natalya says Evolution II is happening soon
As a result, WWE flew Natalya and Lacey Evans with the male roster so that they can organize a matchup at Crown Jewel. The final sanction was made before the press conference took place one day before the PPV. The official announcement also came, thereafter. Below is how Natalya reacted on this,
“[When Cole announced it] that’s when it became official for me. We had been hearing rumblings that we were going to get the match, but we still weren’t sure, it was up in the air.
About two days before we went to Saudi Arabia this time, we were told, ‘Hey, there’s a good chance that you guys get a match. We can’t guarantee it, but it’s looking good.’ For us, we were cautiously optimistic because we didn’t want to get our hopes up and then have them dashed.” (courtesy wwfoldschool.com)
During another recent interview with TalkSport.com, the winner of the match, Natalya also revealed Vince McMahon’s reaction to the first-ever women’s match in Saudi Arabia,
“Vince was extremely happy. We had a camera crew back there and I hugged Fit Finlay – the producer of the match – and I hugged my husband … Lana was back there, we gave her a hug because she was the other girl on the show, Lacey and I hugged each other and it was just a really great moment where we felt we finally did it.
I know that WWE fought really hard for this match. They fought really, really, really hard to make this match happen and as I said before: we were ready for it, WWE was ready for it, Saudi Arabia was ready for it and people all over the world were ready for it. And all of that readiness made all the difference.”
Natalya will be using momentums earned from this matchup to a big extent for weeks to come. She teamed up with Charlotte Flair on this past episode of Monday Night Raw to pick up another huge victory. She ended up submitting one half of the women’s tag team champions, Asuka that might give her a shot to the titles, shortly.
