Within three weeks’ time, WWE will host Night of Champions 2023 in the middle-east land of Saudi Arabia. Being a Wrestlemania-esque PPV night, the top attractions from the WWE rosters needed to be there. Hence, Brock Lesnar has officially been announced for a match on that night and it’s going to be a rematch from the just-bygone Backlash 2023 PPV.
Cody Rhodes kicked off this week’s Raw and said he discovered at Backlash that Brock Lesnar can be defeated. Moving forward from The Beast, he then turned his attention to the World Heavyweight Championship as the new holder of the belt will be declared at Night of Champions 2023.

Cody also revealed the tournament bracket for the tournament from the Raw side – Cody Rhodes vs. Finn Balor vs. The Miz and Seth Rollins vs. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Damian Priest.
Moving on Raw, in one of these two triple-threat matches, Rhodes faced The Miz and Finn Balor, with the stipulation saying that the winner will advance to the semi-finals of the tournament, later that night.
Being the favorite in this match, Rhodes almost had the match won after hitting Cross-Rhodes on The Miz, but his pin-fall attempt was prohibited by Lesnar who invaded Raw and took Cody out of the match by pulling him out of the ring. Taking advantage of the situation, Balor hit a Coup de Grace on Miz to get the win and advance in the WHC tournament to become the new champion at Night of Champions 2023.

Night of Champions 2023: Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes rematch set
Following the match, Lesnar’s beatdown on Cody continued as the American Nightmare was sent through the announcement table. Lesnar then took the mic and told the viewers of Raw to look at his wounded face, which had a black eye and stitches in his forehead, wounds from his Backlash main event match with Cody.
Lesnar then also proceeded to challenge for a rematch with Cody at Night of Champions 2023. He also repeatedly referred to this rematch being “a fight” rather than just a match. Later on the night, Raw interviewer Cathy Kelley had an interview with Cody Rhodes where the match challenge was accepted.
Soon after that, WWE officially announced Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar for Night of Champions 2023 set for Saturday, May 27, 2023, at the Jeddah Super Dome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This is the second match confirmed for the PLE apart from the finale of the World Heavyweight Championship tournament.
