One of the most celebrated relationships in the history of WWE featured John Cena and Nikki Bella. The two celebrities were supposed to be the endgame but there’s a ‘never say never’ saying in the world sports entertainment business. As much as the fans didn’t want this to happen, the two parted ways just one year after the two got engaged in front of the public eyes on WWE TV.
The fairytale romance started in 2012 and that relationship saga was well-documented through Total Divas. Proving the speculations true, The Cenation Leader proposed to Nikki Bella in 2017 at WrestleMania 33 as things appeared to be more than smooth in their relationship. Then in a shocking turn of events, the power couple called off their marriage in 2018 and announced separation.

In her book, Incomparable, Nikki Bella revealed that she and Cena initially expected to head into a different future in their relationship but moving forward, she lost herself in this. Several theories were out about the reason for their breakup. People reported that the former WWE Divas Champion wasn’t happy with the fact that her partner was doing a favor by marrying her,
“He was making it abundantly clear that he was going into this gritting his teeth the whole way. Nikki is an amazing, talented, strong, one-of-a-kind woman. Anyone would be lucky to have her in their life — yet John acted more and more like he was doing her a favor by somehow conceding to go ahead and marry her,” a source said. “[Nikki] doesn’t need a pity proposal, a pity wedding, a pity husband. She’s a phenomenal, tremendous woman.”

In another update from ET, the main cause behind Nikki Bella calling it a quit since they had different ideas about the future. She always envisioned a family while Cena didn’t want children. Eventually, he did agree to give her a child but it was a forced decision. This was the prime reason to move on in different ways as the ex-Total Bellas star didn’t want her partner to force her into taking a decision.
Ultimately in late 2020, John Cena married Shay Shariatzadeh, a Canadian engineer after the two met during the shooting of his film Playing with Fire in 2019. As for Nikki Bella, she married her Dancing with the Stars partner Artem Chigvintsev in August 2022. The couple had also welcomed their son Matteo to this world in July 2020 just a day apart Nikki’s twin sister Brie Bella gave birth to Buddy with Bryan Danielson.
