WWE NXT Women’s Title match has been made official for TakeOver 36 as Raquel Gonzalez is scheduled to defend against Dakota Kai on the show set for the SummerSlam Weekend. WWE came up with the match announcement on their website and social media sites as we expect the storyline for this match to be rolling through the upcoming episode of NXT.
As seen a couple of weeks ago, Dakota Kai turned on Raquel Gonzalez after being tag partner to her for a long time. After a beatdown on the champion, she cut a promo last Tuesday and promised to take Gonzalez out of this world, just like she brought her into it, by capturing the NXT Women’s Title at TakeOver. She also claimed to give everything to the champion.

Raquel Gonzalez has been absent from NXT TV since that attack but she will appear on this Tuesday’s NXT show to issue a response. We’ll find out how that segment goes by. Kai hasn’t been confirmed to attend the segment as a physical confrontation could be reserved for next week which will mark NXT’s go-home episode before this upcoming TakeOver.
Raquel Gonzalez used to be tag partner of Dakota Kai
On February 16, 2020, at NXT TakeOver: Portland, Raquel Gonzalez made her first televised appearance after competing at the Mae Young Classic under the same ring name. She interfered in a street fight between Dakota Kai and Tegan Nox by slamming Nox through a table, allowing Kai to win the match. Since then she has been in alliance with Kai before the recent turn-on by the latter one.
Before the ally broke, Kai and Raquel Gonzalez also became the inaugural Women’s Tag Team Champions before losing the belts to the team of Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart on the same night. On April 7, 2021, on the first night of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, Gonzalez defeated Io Shirai to become the new NXT Women’s Champion.
Since then she has had successful title defenses against the likes of Mercedes Martinez, Ember Moon, and Xia Li. Now, she is heading into the next title defense at NXT Takeover 36 that will be held on Sunday, August 22 from the Capitol Wrestling Center at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
