Natalya and Tamina Snuka won the Women’s Tag Team Titles by defeating Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler on SmackDown. It was apparently something the company has decided to do at WrestleMania 37 even before the duo was unsuccessful in clinching the gold in their first attempt. The positive reaction from the fans has a lot to do with the planning.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed Natalya and Tamina Snuka’s latest push. Per his dissection, the call was made after WrestleMania to keep on their push because of the incredible reception the team had received from the live fans present at Raymond James Stadium. Now, they can proudly call themselves to be new champions due to that.

“Tamina’s push came from the fans started chanting her name at WrestleMania on the two nights when you actually had fans and [WWE] went with it because, you know whatever it was that was one of the stores at WrestleMania,” Meltzer stated about Natalya and Tamina Snuka’s push.
“It was like, hey whatever the reason it was cult or irony or whatever it was, the crowd got behind them and the decision was made. Often times we go ‘oh they don’t listen to their fans,’ this time they did.” (Transcription by Ringside News)
As noted, Natalya and Tamina Snuka did not win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania Night Two. They won the contenders Gauntlet Eliminator Match to go on to the title match only to earn a clean pinfall loss after which there has been some discussion what was the point of keeping them in the title picture. Now we know why they kept on chasing those titles.
Finally, the go-home episode of SmackDown before the WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view saw Natalya and Tamina Snuka winning the gold and the moment received tons of attention. For both of them, this appears to be the first tag title win while for Snuka, it’s also her maiden major title win in her WWE career. This is why she became very emotional while seeing custom side plates of her name in the belts.
