For several months, the ongoing feud between Edge and The Judgment Day faction has been a key feature of WWE Raw programming. It all began after Edge, the former leader of the faction was kicked out of the group by Priest and the new leader, Finn Balor. Edge then made his return to SummerSlam and since then he’s been on a redemption path on his former protégés.
The program continued with Edge taking on the newest addition to the faction in Dominik Mysterio on the September 12 episode of WWE Raw. The Rated R Superstar and Rey Mysterio’s son delivered a back-and-forth main event before it was expectedly interrupted by the members of Judgment Day. Rhea Ripley was already standing at ringside to provide distractions while Priest and Balor joined her, afterward.

The match on WWE Raw ended in a disqualification as The Judgment Day pounced on Edge. After the match bell rang, Dominik Mysterio attacked Edge’s leg with a steel chair. After digesting several such chair shots, his leg was then placed on the chair as Finn Balor came crashing down on it off the top rope with his pendant finishing maneuver, the Coup De Grace.

Edge’s knee injury from WWE Raw wasn’t a real one
Speculations started afterward that it was a way to write off Edge from WWE Raw programming, for the time being. Dave Meltzer pointed out on Wrestling Observer Radio that the WWE Hall of Famer has a limited contract and he’s not bound to make it to WWE TV on a weekly basis. Hence, the angle with the chair was certainly done to keep Edge off TV. But the absence should not last long.
During a recent episode of WWE The Bump on YouTube, it was revealed that Edge suffered a grad 2 MCL sprain. This was determined after an MRI that was performed after stretchering him out of the arena following WWE Raw. It was not revealed for how long Edge will be out of action to sell his knee injury but it’s not real. It’s all part of the storyline and even the superstar himself wants the time off.
Extreme Rules is scheduled for October 8th and it will be the first event under the chronology to be held in October and on a Saturday. With his kayfabe injury ongoing, Edge will be there at the PLE to get some revenge on Finn Balor as the two are booked in an I Quit Match. Edge is also a betting favorite to come out on top in this match.
