Renee Young, the most popular figure from WWE’s commentary division doesn’t belong to the company, anymore. After serving the company for eight years, she’s filed her resignation, last month which was accepted as the two parties chose to part away. Thus, the Canadian journalist no more belongs to WWE. SummerSlam 2020 was the last time that she hosted a show on WWE TV.
Renee Young Reveals Reason Why She Opted To Leave WWE
After getting done with her final date with WWE, Renee Young has now opened up on her decision to quit WWE after working here since 2012. She recently appeared on the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast with Jimmy Traina while talking about her WWE stint. She was asked about one particular thing that made her want to leave.
While responding to the question, Renee Young noted there wasn’t any particular incident that led her to take this decision. Rather, the news of the cancellation of WWE Backstage on FOX on the same day that she tested positive for COVID-19, factored into her decision.
“It was really with Backstage being canceled that I was like, ‘What am I doing? I’m not really doing anything anymore and my skill set of being a host … there’s just nowhere for me to do it anymore.
Even with Talking Smack coming back, I had heard the rumblings that Talking Smack was making its way back, I was planning on perhaps doing that. But I was like, ‘You know what? I feel like I’m taking steps backward. I’m sorta spinning my wheels to go back and do a show. To not be doing it with Daniel Bryan. To not be doing it with Mike Mansury, who also is no longer with WWE. But that was sort of the magic of what that show was to me.”
Renee Young Thanks McMahon Family After Leaving WWE
It should be noted that Renee Young actually had two separate contracts with the WWE, one with the company and the other had an association with FOX through which she was able to continue her hosting gig on WWE Backstage.
Renee Young pointed out that she had to step down from doing commentary and it did leave a bad taste in her mouth. But she was happy as she was able to do something else at FOX with the Backstage stint. But then it got scrapped due to the budget cut of FOX due to the coronavirus pandemic days and it left her wondering what could be waiting next in her career.
Renee Young then made up her mind to finally leave the WWE and let the decision know to the head of the WWE commentary division, Michael Cole. No one from the WWE tried to talk her out of leaving the decision as she thinks they were aware of the frustrations she built over the years.
Young added that returning as a backstage interviewer on Friday Night SmackDown was a step back from her career perspective. She also pitched a few ideas about being used as a special correspondent for the blue brand but those didn’t come to fruition.
