Roman Reigns last competed at WrestleMania 39 Night Two where he defeated Cody Rhodes to keep his historic title run intact. Via interferences from The Bloodline, he retained the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and stopped Rhodes from fulfilling his story.

Since that, WWE’s Head of the Table has only appeared once on WWE programming, and that was on the Raw after WrestleMania where he was originally supposed to participate in a tag team match which never happened. Then Roman Reigns moved into a hiatus but despite his absence, the 37-year-old was drafted to SmackDown as the first overall draft pick of 2023.
