Money in the Bank 2019 edition had surprising bookings that left the pro-wrestling world buzzing about it. There were some positive outcomes coming out of the show as well as the negative outcome. Brock Lesnar winning the briefcase was perhaps the top-most among them. But the injury of Rey Mysterio was also a topic that the IWC was discussing upon.
In a report carried by wwfoldschol.com, Rey Mysterio picked up an injury. It happened during the United States title match at Money in the Bank against Samoa Joe. Mysterio went on to pin Joe to win the championship for the first time in his career. This made him a Grand Slam winner in the WWE but the celebration was short-lived for him. Here was the report prior to this week’s WWE Raw on the injury,
“According to the Wrestling Observer, Rey Mysterio injured his shoulder during his match with Samoa Joe (where he controversially became the new United States Champion). Mysterio was icing his shoulder backstage after the match and the trainers were checking on him too. Word going on is that Mysterio might have separated his shoulder, but that’s not confirmed yet.”

WWE has now confirmed the same about the greatest high-flying man in all of sports entertainment. WWE Raw announcer Michael Cole informed us that Rey Mysterio is dealing with a separated shoulder following Money in the Bank. He is the current United States Champion who can’t defend it due to the injury. Hence, we will receive an update on the status of the title when WWE Raw airs, next week.

There’s no latest update available on the extent of the separated shoulder that Rey Mysterio has. It is likely that he’ll have to undergo a surgery in the near future. If that is the case then he’d have to spend a number of months out of action. So, there’s literally no way for him but to relinquish the United States Championship, next week.
Samoa Joe won the United States title prior to this year’s Wrestlemania to enter into a feud against Rey Mysterio over it. They have squared off at the biggest stage of them all and continued the feud at Money in the Bank. With Rey being on the shelf, the rivalry must have come to an end at the bygone pay-per-view event.
