Roman Reigns is in a hiatus from WWE as he opted to stay home instead of wrestling Goldberg at WrestleMania for the Universal Championship. WWE does miss him, big-time as this absence often causes the viewership to get shrinking down. AJ Styles commented on this situation stating that these two have to be related to each other.
Both Raw and SmackDown earned record low viewership numbers during the pandemic. This is to blame on a lot of things, and the absence of Roman Reigns might be the most important one to note. While speaking with SunSport, AJ Styles noted how having back the former Universal Champion would be a big help for WWE to pull up the ratings,
“You can’t deny the fact that Roman Reigns is one of the biggest stars in WWE. He’s WWE. I mean, he’s the guy. so to get him back could be a big help.”
Roman Reigns Says He Misses Wrestling Released WWE Superstar
The Phenomenal One AJ Styles also credited Roman Reigns for some of his success in WWE. He stated that his career received a big boost because The Big Dog worked with him in those initial days which really helped to establish him as bigger star power rather than just being an indie scene wrestler.
“They made it easy for me to be in there with Roman, because Roman is such a huge star.
It only got better from there when I had the opportunity to get in the ring with Roman, one of the pay per views, actually a couple of pay per views I think.
When I’ve got a title opportunity, it was against Roman Reigns. Unbelievable match. I’ve watched it back. Wow. I can’t believe we did all this stuff that was really good.
“So, yeah, Roman Reigns is a big part of the reason why my career’s where it’s at.”
Roman Reigns: Negative Update On The Big Dog’s WWE Return
For those who don’t remember AJ Styles entered the WWE back in 2016. Following a WrestleMania win over Chris Jericho, he moved into a WWE Championship feud with Roman Reigns in weeks to follow. These two delivered two brilliant main event matches at Extreme Rules and Payback pay-per-view, that year. Once the feud was over, AJ could solidify himself on the main event level.
The Phenomenal One does remember the old times from his initial WWE days and didn’t mind to credit the Big Dog for putting him in a map. Just weeks after the feud with Roman Reigns was over, AJ could enter a feud with none other than John Cena and eventually win it to become the face that runs the place on SmackDown.
While being the current Intercontinental Champion on the blue brand, he still mentions himself with the tagline. As for Roman Reigns, he is still at home in full quarantine mode taking care of his family and the two newborn twins. He’s said to be in great in-ring shape, as well. But it will take some time for him to return as WWE scrapped SummerSlam plans around him.
