Roman Reigns has been in the middle of a history-making and never-ending championship run in the WWE for the past couple of years. He’s the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and since returning to WWE back in 2020, he’s literally been in an unstoppable mode.
In the main event of WWE Clash at the Castle 2022, Roman Reigns defeated Drew McIntyre to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Solo Sikoa (younger brother of The Usos) from NXT 2.0 attacked McIntyre midway through the match which resulted in Reigns hitting the Spear and pinning McIntyre to pick up the win.

With that, Roman Reigns’ 2+ year title reign continues and it’s approaching the 750-day landmark spot. Many believed that McIntyre was ‘the chosen one’ to end the ongoing reign of The Tribal Chief but that wasn’t the case. Apparently, WWE has a solid reason to keep the titles intact on the shoulders of the top superstar.
Roman Reigns’ Next Title Match Opponent In WWE Not Decided Yet
Reason behind Roman Reigns defeating Drew McIntyre at Clash at the Castle
According to the reports Wrestling Observer, WWE booked Roman Reigns to win this match at Clash at the Castle while protecting McIntyre via Solo Sikoa’s interference. The company does have long-term plans for The Head of the Table via which he will be portrayed as the greatest of this generation.
“The reality is the company has a long-term commitment to Roman Reigns as its top guy and champion. They want to make him the legend for this generation and ending the planned long reign for a major pop here was a decision they decided against.
They did all they could to protect McIntyre while beating him. Tyson Fury put him over and the show ended with the two of them sharing the stage. McIntyre, who didn’t know the show was still being broadcast, vowed that he would win the title.”
At WWE Payback on August 30, 2020, Roman Reigns defeated Braun Strowman and “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt to win the Universal Championship. Then at WrestleMania 38 on April 3, 2022, he defeated Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship and thus became the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. He’s also been unpinned or unsubmitted for more than 1000+ days during this ongoing title run.
