Ronda Rousey was sitting without an opponent for a few weeks due to WWE’s thinner female roster, especially on the blue brand. The company found it hard to choose a worthy challenger for her in absence of the likes of Charlotte Flair or Sasha Banks. However, Natalya was finally selected for the challenger’s spot as the duo is set to collide at Money in the Bank.

Over on this past edition of Smackdown, Ronda Rousey cut a promo and threw some major shades on her challenger for copying the originator of Sharpshooter, Bret Hart. The challenger, however, had other plans to send back a statement and that was via a sneak attack.

Ronda Rousey Possibly Out Of Money In The Bank 2022 After WWE Smackdown Injury? 1

During the June 10 episode, Ronda Rousey defeated Shotizi in SmackDown Women’s Championship Contender’s match. After Piper’s Pit, the champion made Shotzi tap out with her pendant armbar submission move. Obviously, a celebration over the victory was expected, but Natalya attacked her from behind.

Ronda Rousey’s title defense could be postponed

The BOAT applied a sharpshooter Ronda Rousey and didn’t let it go until the officials ran out to break the hold. Later, WWE backstage interviewer Kayla Braxton revealed that the champion indeed suffered a “serious injury” after the attack and her match at Money in the Bank could be in jeopardy.

Now, obviously, that was supposed to be a kayfabe injury to fuel things up in the ongoing championship feud. But there could be more to the story. For those who don’t know, Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey are no more there on the poster of Money in the Bank. They were prominently featured in the original poster but the updated poster removed both these two top superstars.

Since WWE has moved MITB to a smaller venue of MGM Grand Arena in Vegas, the feeling is that the two MITB ladder matches would be enough to sell out the crowd. Hence the presence of Roman Reigns and Ronda Rousey may not be needed. Hence, this injury storyline could indeed move back Rousey’s next title defense against Nattie. In that case, the title match would feature in the Summerslam 2022 card.

Nothing is confirmed about this match being postponed as we expect to learn more updates on this coming episode of Smackdown.
