Ronda Rousey wasn’t fully involved on the Road to WrestleMania 39 due to a sudden injury. This caused multiple changes to the original planning around the Show of Shows but WWE eventually carried on with a WrestleMania Showcase to involve the top superstar in a multi-person match. Apparently, she was set to win a title but that match was scrapped.

Teaming up with Shayna Baszler, Ronda Rousey should have been involved in a WWE Women’s Tag Team Title Match. But she reaggravated a prior elbow injury but still competed at WrestleMania, teaming with Shayna Baszler for a fatal-4-way tag team match. Things had to change along the way as WWE wanted to protect her from the injury by keeping her involved in a multi-person matchup.

Ronda Rousey’s Smackdown Women’s Championship was hurriedly taken off

By that time, Rhea Ripley was finalized to win the WWE Royal Rumble, and she’d have challenged Ronda Rousey for the Smackdown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 39 while over on the WWE Raw brand, a returning Charlotte would have gone after Bianca Belair for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship.

But then in early December, Charlotte Flair, who was off television for quite some time, was pitched to make a return on SmackDown. At the same time, the long-rumored Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey matchup for WrestleMania was also canceled.

It was also reported that “those familiar with the situation said that Ronda Rousey preferred and pushed for the tag team with Shayna Baszler that we now see playing out on WWE television, which is slated to end up with them challenging for the WWE Tag Team Titles.”

Charlotte was then booked to win the Women’s Championship during her return and interestingly, she didn’t even know that she was winning the title until the night that she showed up. After that, Ronda Rousey was switched into the tag team championship picture. Currently, she is waiting to get involved in a tag team title match once her injury gets fully healed.
