Ronda Rousey mostly remains a top draw of any match card in the WWE. SummerSlam was no different where she was booked to challenge for the SmackDown Women’s Championship held by Liv Morgan. Some of the fans were excited to see this encounter, especially for the champion’s performance at the second biggest premium live event of the year. But those were extremely disappointed.
It’s safe to say that the match featuring Ronda Rousey underdelivered while it was also reportedly “had a lot of time cut” due to time constraints. According to Bryan Alvarez of The Wrestling Observer, the women’s title match had to be adjusted to a big extent.
Ronda Rousey Suspended By WWE For Her Actions At Summerslam 2022
The Miz vs. Logan Paul match proceeded for longer than anticipated, which forced WWE producers to cut short Ronda Rousey vs. Liv Morgan SmackDown Women’s Championship matchup. Here’s what the veteran wrestling journalist posted on his Twitter account,
“That match had a lot of time cut because Miz and Logan went long. HOW ABOUT WE CUT SOME VIDEO PACKAGES INSTEAD OF TIME OFF MATCHES?”
It should be noted that The Miz vs. Paul match went overboard for 14 minutes and 15 seconds while the aforementioned matchup lasted for just 4 minutes and 34 seconds which the champion retained in a controversial manner.

Apart from the overboard matchup, WWE also aired several video packages in-between the almost four-hour-long event, featuring the career highlights of Superstars such as Brock Lesnar or the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Plus, Charlotte Flair and Kevin Owens also featured in such packages which Alvarez noted also contributed to Ronda Rousey vs. Liv Morgan match being cut short.
As seen during the actual match, it mostly revolved around the SmackDown Women’s Champion’s damaged arm upon which Ronda Rousey kept on pummeling. It eventually forced the trainer to repeatedly check on Morgan who showed a fighting spirit. After attacking Morgan’s arm, The Baddest Woman on the Planet locked in the Armbar Submission when Morgan reversed the hold and downed her shoulders on the mat for a pinfall victory.
However, replays showed that Morgan had also tapped out to the Armbar before the referee counted to three and the announcers acknowledged on the live broadcast that it was the referee’s fault that she never saw the tap-out. An irate Ronda Rousey then destroyed Morgan and also the referee with Armbar submission. This post-match angle probably solidified Rousey’s heel turn on WWE programming.
