Bollywood’s latest tradition of making biopics are on. This time, the first-ever name from India to make it big in the WWE will be the titular character of the movie. A project is being considered on the former world heavyweight champion, The Great Khali.
As per reports from pinkvilla.com, Sushant Singh Rajput has been roped in for playing the role. No confirmation is yet to be made on this since it is supposed that the initial talks are going in for the film. But, if SSR can grab the role, then it can certainly be yet another milestone film for him.
Apparently, a source has spoken to a leading daily suggesting the following,
“The biopic is in the life of wrestler Dalip Singh Rana, better known as Khali or The Great Khali in WWE circle. The studio has spoken to the Punjabi wrestler, and he has given them the rights to make a film on his life. Sushant has been approached to play the titular role, and he has in principle agreed to do the film.”
We know more of Khali’s life in the WWE. But, the film will focus more on the early lives where he had to struggle a lot to earn his daily bread. So, this will portray a whole new side of his life.
At this time, Sushant is busy filming his upcoming project, Kedarnath and then will head to the USA for a science fiction based film on NASA named Chanda Mama Dur Ke. When he gets over from these schedules, he might start shooting for the movie based on the former WWE superstar.
The main reason as of why Sushant has been approached for this project is the success of his biopic film on Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The filmmakers have full faith in him. But, the question is how he is going to transform into the giant figure that Khali possesses. VFX effects are bound to come to play to make him look suitable, as per the source. Further revelations were made which is as follows,
“What worked in Sushant’s favour during Dhoni was that he looked, walked and talked like MSD. Here, Sushant has no similarities with Khali when it comes to his body prototype and his height. Unless there’s a lot of VFX involved, it’s difficult to pull off a film on Khali. No hero in Bollywood will look convincing as The Great Khali unless there’s CGI.”
Hailed from Punjab, The Great Khali’s real name is Daill Singh Rana. He weighed 157 kilos with a monstrous height of 7 feet and 1 inch. He was the first one to put our native land into the map of the pro-wrestling world by going against names like The Undertaker, Kane, John Cena, Batista and more.
