Stephanie McMahon has been leading WWE’s corporate plans for quite sometimes, now. Recently, she noted that WWE is in the process to announce plans on the NCAA NIL program. They may include the nature of the programming contents and its overall brand image.
This is the program via which talented mainstream athletes such as Olympic Gold Medal winner Gable Steveson have signed a multi-year deal with the WWE. Steveson holds the first NCAA NIL (name, image, likeness) deal for the promotion. Per Stephanie McMahon, WWE has more than interest in talents outside of pro-wrestling is clear and former MMA fighter Ronda Rousey was just an example, to begin with considering the future.
Speaking of Rousey, the former Raw Women’s Champion has been absent from the WWE programming for almost three years now. Many fans are curious to know whether she is still with the WWE brand or not. Stephanie McMahon was asked that question while appearing on the Adam’s Apple podcast.
Stephanie McMahon says Rousey is welcome in WWE
Stephanie McMahon discussed Gable Steveson, Rousey, and more on the podcast. She said that while there’s no official word on when she’ll return to WWE, but she can always be back to the WWE. “As long as she stays away from” her, she’ll always be welcome to be on board.
As noted, WrestleMania 35 main event in 2019 marked the final appearance for Rousey in a WWE ring. She lost her RAW Women’s Championship on that night to Becky Lynch in a Triple Threat also featuring Charlotte Flair. Then she moved into a pregnancy hiatus and welcomed her daughter “La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō Browne with husband Travis Browne, back in this year’s September.
Stephanie McMahon had quite the rivalry with her when it comes to WWE TV. The two featured in a mixed tag team match on Wrestlemania 34 while Rousey broke Steph’s hands, the night after.
The original contract of Rousey, signed with WWE expired back on April 10, 2021. Regardless of what her current status stands, she keeps in touch with Stephanie McMahon as stated in a recent Facebook live session. As for the impending return, the UFC Hall of Famer is uncertain about it as she doesn’t even know whether she’s still employed by the WWE or not.
