The 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble was an all-star edition that saw WWE Hall of Famers like Lita, Ivory, The Bella Twins, and Legends (Summer Rae, Michelle McCool, Mickie James) returning to action. Overall 13 superstars from the past entered the match as WWE was short of names to fulfill the fray after letting many of the previous roster members go amid the COVID-19 pandemic-related budget cuts.
There’s a surprising aspect of Royal Rumble where superstars from the past often show up in these matches to make the fans go wild and such an atmosphere was expected on that occasion. But then WWE announced all the attendees of the women’s Royal Rumble match way ahead including Summer Rae’s return.
In fact, the former Total Divas star was once brought into an episode of Smackdown, heading into Rumble for promotion purposes. The whole concept of WWE pre-announcing the Rumble entrants appeared to be gibberish to many of the fans as well as the superstars themselves.

WWE ruined Summer Rae’s WWE return in 2022 after six years
While speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Summer Rae revisited that time of her WWE return. Per her confession, she was excited to be back in action and show the world that she has plenty to offer. At the same time, she wanted this to be a full-on surprise. Hence, the beforehand announcement did annoy her,
“You know, I was bummed that they announced me before because I felt like no one thought I was going to come back ever. And I’m so good at hiding stuff like pretending that I’m somewhere else… So I remember when they said they were gonna announce me, they literally called me the day of and I was doing cardio… I’m like, okay, cool. And then I’m like, I haven’t told any of my friends. I was fabing everyone.”

During that 2022 return for the Women’s Royal Rumble Match, Summer Rae rekindled her rivalry with Natalya from the Total Divas days. Trading barbs on social media, the two made the angle look personal heading into the match. Many thought that the two could stretch up the angle in the match but in reality, WWE barely allowed them to have a minute before Nattie threw the returnee over the top rope for the elimination.
