SummerSlam 2022 is almost here and WWE isn’t reportedly happy with how things have been set up for the event. They might not be happy with the lack of star power that’s been inserted into the card. The absence of the WWE Hall of Famer Edge is one of the names that is being missed by both the fans and the officials. The legendary Superstar faced betrayal from his stable, The Judgment Day which automatically converted him into a babyface.
That, in turn, also set up the possibility of a tag team match at SummerSlam 2022. After receiving a brutal beatdown by the heel faction, Edge suffered a “non-displaced orbital floor fracture” to get written off WWE TV. The speculated timeline for the superstar’s return is the July 25 edition of Raw emanating from Madison Square Garden.

Edge also reportedly wanted to get himself out of the Judgement Day faction after having considerable disagreements with the creative team as he didn’t want to get involved in a supernatural angle. Now, the WWE Hall of Famer will be bringing back the Rated-R Superstar gimmick before SummerSlam 2022.
According to Bryan Alvarez on Wednesday’s Wrestling Observer Live podcast, WWE has already been prepping merchandise around the Rated-R Superstar merchandise eyeing a big return on the card,
“I think they’ve already got Rated-R Superstar merch so I’m pretty sure that he’s returning as the Rated-R Superstar. Now what that means as a babyface [or as] a heel I don’t know. I don’t think he’s coming back to Judgment Day. Especially because he left Judgment Day. He left because he didn’t want to be involved with anything spooky but then they haven’t done anything spooky [with Judgment Day].”

Edge’s babyface comeback happening before SummerSlam 2022
For weeks now, WWE has been teasing the return of Edge through a series of mystery vignettes containing references to the likes of John Cena, Randy Orton, Mick Foley, Kurt Angle, The Dudleys, and The Hardy Boyz. Some of the fans thought that those vignettes could be building up Bray Wyatt’s WWE comeback but Fightful Select confirmed that this is behind the former world champion.
While there’s no confirmation available on whether Edge will return on next week’s RAW but he is scheduled to be in a match at SummerSlam 2022. A report from WWFOldSchool.com suggested that he will likely compete in a tag team match at the pay-per-view event with the lineup being Edge and Rey Mysterio vs. Finn Balor and Damian Priest.
The Mysterios have been feuding with Judgment Day for a while now, leading to a possible program at SummerSlam 2022. Also, on next week’s RAW, Rey Mysterio will celebrate his 20th WWE anniversary. If attacked by Judgement Day, Mysterio could certainly expect a backup from his former tag team partner. Eventually, it could also lead to a singles contest against Finn Balor.
