Brock Lesnar made a surprising return to WWE television on the June 17 episode to set up the main event of SummerSlam 2022. He flattened The Bloodline – Roman Reigns and The Usos with a trifecta of F5s to make the impression clear that he’s not backing down from the quest of receiving the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
Afterward, it was announced that Brock Lesnar will face Roman Reigns at SummerSlam 2022 in a Last Man Standing capacity, a match that is likely to culminate in the rivalry between the two top superstars of the WWE. But then again, last week the main event seemed to be in jeopardy after Vince McMahon’s sudden departure.
Summerslam 2022: New Match Confirmed Featuring WWE Legend
Going by the reports from last week, Brock Lesnar refused to work this past edition of SmackDown after the retirement announcement by the Boss of the WWE. The Beast Incarnate was furious about the fact that McMahon would no more be in charge and opted to leave the building. Officials have to work hard to bring him back and keep the SummerSlam 2022 main event intact.
PWInsider reported that WWE removed all mentions of Brock Lesnar from their advertisement for SmackDown, at one point and it could have been a big blow for the show that took place at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

But Brock eventually showed up on the final segment of the SmackDown penultimate edition prior to SummerSlam 2022. Fans were thrilled to see him back in the building but at the same time, the move caught them by surprise.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about the situation around the number-one contender of the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. He stated that WWE had to make a deal with Lesnar to make sure that the disastrous situation can be avoided.
“It was imperative that they got Lesnar back. The basic gist was – the most famous guy on the roster who was the main guy advertised for the show on Boston, all of a sudden he walks out, that’s the worst that could happen. They made sure he came back.
I was not told what the deal was to get him back. The worst thing they could have is that all of a sudden Vince left, and it’s anarchy. Brock leaving and SummerSlam changing would’ve been an absolute disaster at this time, so they made sure that did not happen.”
As seen on SmackDown, Brock Lesnar appeared in the closing moments of the show, entered the ring, and kicked Theory to the gut, before planting him with a devastating F5. He then destroyed Theory with the Money in the Bank briefcase before leveling with another F5 on the briefcase. Besides, WWE also kept on promoting the original Reigns vs. Lesnar main event for SummerSlam 2022 affirming that there’d be no change in the lineup.
